Kenya has lost a remarkable athlete, Jairus Kipchoge Birech, who passed away on September 18, 2025, at the age of 32. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed. Birech’s career highlights include a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, a gold medal at the 2014 African Championships, and winning the 2014 Diamond League. His personal best of 7:58.41 remains one of the fastest times in the 3000m steeplechase.
