Kenya has intensified security operations along its borders, especially near Somalia, following intelligence reports of increased terror activity by al-Shabaab militants.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have deployed more troops, armored vehicles, and advanced surveillance drones to monitor cross-border movements. Interior Ministry officials confirmed that security patrols have been reinforced in Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties—areas frequently targeted by insurgents.
Experts warn that instability in Somalia continues to pose risks for Kenya’s national security. However, the government says it remains committed to safeguarding citizens and protecting key infrastructure projects, including roads, energy networks, and communication systems in northern Kenya.
Local leaders have welcomed the heightened security measures but called for parallel investment in community development to counter extremist recruitment.
Kenya’s latest border security push comes as part of a broader national security strategy, combining military strength with counter-radicalization initiatives.
