Alleged Murder in Garissa Shocks Community

Garissa County is reeling after news that a man accused of murdering his 17-year-old ‘wife’ was released on bail. The incident has raised concerns about early marriages and violence against minors in the region.

The accused, whose identity has been withheld pending investigation, appeared before a Garissa Chief Magistrate Court, where he was charged with murder.

Bail Granted by Court

The magistrate granted the accused KSh 100,000 cash bail or a KSh 500,000 bond with one surety. He is required to surrender all travel documents and report regularly to the police until the next court date.

The case will be mentioned again in court on September 12, 2025, as police continue with investigations.

Community Outrage

Local residents have expressed shock and anger over the incident. Many questioned the circumstances surrounding the minor’s marriage and safety. Human rights advocates have reiterated the need to protect minors from forced marriages and domestic violence.

“This is a tragic reminder of how vulnerable children can be in early marriages,” said a local activist.
“The law must protect our children from such abuse.”

Police Investigation Underway

Authorities in Garissa are continuing investigations into the murder. They have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward.

The release of the suspect on bail has sparked debate about judicial processes in serious crimes involving minors, with some residents calling for stricter bail considerations in cases of violent crime.
